Week 4- Intro to Humanities

Religion

Weekly Questions:

  1. How has religion impacted your life?
  2. If religion is not a feature of your life, why do you think that is?

My Religion?

Religion is a part of my life, but I have struggled with my beliefs throughout my 20 years on this Earth. My parents took us to church as often as they could, but life gets busy, and it can get pushed to the back burner. I do know that I love going to church; I just think I don't prioritise it. I love going and hearing all the music; our church choir is one for the history books. They are so talented, and they make me feel all my feelings even when I don't think I have much emotion left to give. My pastor is a whole other story. He makes things feel so alive, chaotic, messy, loving, and downright crazy because no matter what he preaches, I feel like it was made just for me.

However, I have struggled with thinking, "God doesn't give you more than you can handle." At the ripe age of 10, I was not ready to handle all the things that got thrown my way. Believe me when I say everything that has happened has made me stronger, tougher, and more empathetic, but I have to wonder why me? It has made me more of a challenge, though. I am a challenging cookie to figure out when I want to make sure everyone knows about everything. I have felt God more than once, but I still struggle with how and why things happen. Do I trust my God? Yes. Do I still question things? Every damn day.

  1. "WHY...." Oh, goodness! I repeatedly ask that question. I try to remember to ask it when things are good as well as when life gets tough.
