Week 16

Sunday, November 19, 2023 Week 16- Intro to Humanities Film Weekly Questions: How does film reflect the beliefs and values of your society? How do films make you think? What is the relationship between the viewer (you) and the film? Film          Films reflect the beliefs and values of my society by including themes, messages, and characters that resonate with my worldview. They can portray cultural norms, social issues, and moral values, shaping and influencing societal perspectives. Films make me think about their music and the different messages they portray. The relationship between myself and the film is whatever I want it to be. Depending on what I watch, I could be mad, sad, happy, curious, or even confused by film.

Week 13

Sunday, November 19, 2023 Week 13- Intro to Humanities Music Weekly Questions: What do we mean when we refer to music as the universal language? What is music? How is this different from sound? Why do people listen to music? Music           When we refer to music as the universal language, we mean that music has the ability to transcend language and cultural barriers. It has the power to evoke emotions, communicate ideas, and connect people from different backgrounds and parts of the world. People often understand and appreciate music regardless of their native language or cultural upbringing, making it a universal form of expression.  Music is a form of artistic expression that combines various elements such as melody, rhythm, harmony, and lyrics to create an organized and intentional arrangement of sounds. It typically involves instruments, vocals, and structured compositions.      On the other hand, sound refers to any audible ...

Sunday, November 12, 2023 Week 11- Intro to Humanities Performing Arts/Music Weekly Questions: Describe a LIVE event you attended. Was it more moving than what you would have experienced had you viewed the play at home or listened to the music in your car or on headphones? What else do you get at a live event that you don't get from recorded versions of the same performances? My First Concert     The first concert I ever attended was Taylor Swift with my dad. I think I was 10 or 11 at the time, and I can remember standing in the crowd feeling awestruck. How everyone in the crowd seemed to follow her every move was cool. My dad got the tickets last minute, which was a good thing, too, because we ended up in the front row, and I got to see Ed Sheeran too. It was definitely better than listening to my earbuds and watching her on a screen.      At a live event, you get the immersive experience of being in the same space as the performers, witnessing their tal...

Week 11- Intro to Humanities Reflective Learning

Recount the food you intake on a normal day versus the food you eat on a special day (like a holiday or celebratory day) and compare them. What does it say about food and your relationship with it? My Food     I love potatoes so much I could eat them every day of my life. Yes, we have them for holidays, but the food we normally only have on those special occasions is ham and turkey. I feel like there are so many different ways you can eat potatoes, like fries and baked potatoes. I think that food and I are definitely friends considering I'm a BIG snacker.

Visual Arts     Conditions, attitudes, and behaviours that support creativity and innovative thinking include an open-minded and curious mindset, willingness to take risks, embracing failure as a learning opportunity, being receptive to new ideas and perspectives, having a collaborative and inclusive working environment, fostering a culture of experimentation and exploration, providing autonomy and freedom to explore ideas, encouraging diverse thinking and perspectives, and promoting a balance between structure and flexibility.      Factors that prevent people from taking creative risks can be fear of failure or rejection, the desire to conform or please others, lack of con...

Week 9- Intro to Humanities Reflective Learning

Wednesday, October 11, 2023 Week 9- Intro to Humanities Hero Weekly Questions: Who was a hero that you admired when you were growing up? What special traits did they have that made them a hero? What personality characteristics/flaws did they have to overcome? What challenges did they face to prove they were a hero? Heros     A hero that I admired growing up was my older brother, Christian. He decided to join the military to protect his country. I think that he is a hero because he protected and built houses for many children in Africa. He even distracted them from all the horrors around them by playing games like Bloody Knuckles. However, it wasn't always a great adventure for him. The people in the place he was protecting did not want him or his fellow soldiers to be there. They threw things and spit at the people trying to protect them.

Wednesday, October 4, 2023 Week 7- Intro to Humanities Literature Weekly Questions: How is literature like life? What is literature supposed to do? What influences a writer to create? Language      Literature can be like life because it reflects the human experience, with its joys and struggles, in a way that resonates with readers. It explores themes such as love, loss, friendship, and growth, mirroring the complexities and emotions we encounter in our own lives. Additionally, literature offers insights and perspectives that can broaden our understanding of the world, much like the way life itself presents us with opportunities to learn and grow.       Literature is supposed to entertain, educate, and inspire readers. It allows us to explore different perspectives, cultures, and emotions. Literature can also serve as a mirror to society, reflecting the human condition and offering valuable insights into the world around us. Ultimately, li...
